Daily Journey – October 5th: Words Can’t be Unsaid

Daily Journey

One of the hardest forms of cognitive bias to defeat is evidence primacy. Basically, your brain latches onto the first piece of information you get about someone or something and then everything else is filtered through that bit of information. (This is the reason why first impressions are so important).

Because of this, what we say is incredibly sticky in other peoples perceptions of us. The words we use and the things we say imply an insight into what we think, and why we think it.

To control this bias we need to measure what we say for the desired effect. You may only get one chance to effectively say what you want to say.

Daily Journey is a collection of my thoughts from reading The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living.  My objective is to gain greater control of my emotional responses by reading and sharing my thoughts on stoicism with you all everyday over the course of a next year.  If you would like to explore these topics with me, and others who are seeking to gain emotional control I these articles to the Mastery of Skill closed facebook group and would love for you to join in on the conversation.

Live Skillfully!
