Daily Journey – November 27th: The Pleasure of Tuning Out the Negative

Information availability is a sharp and serrated double edged sword. On one hand we have access to just about every bit of knowledge we could possibly ever need. Unfortunately on the other hand, we have to wade through the muck and mire that is the internet to get to what we want. Advertising firms, marketing engineers, government’s, social activists… all scream for our attention online, on the radio (yes some of us still listen to the radio), and on TV. And the best way to get our attention is often to find something that makes us angry.

The amazing thing about this anger and rage is we have complete control over when, and even if it gets triggered in us. We simply have to accept that entire enterprises exist in the world that would have us riled up for hours at a time, over things that have very little to do with us, just so we click on one more link.

We have the same level of control over a lot of the stimuli that make us angry. We simply need to accept the control we have, and tune them out.

Instead of letting our physical, mental and emotional energy get indiscriminately used up for someone else’s gain, we can focus on what really matters to us. We can burn hot and bright chasing after the things that we need to thrive and succeed.
