Getting control of your own life is incredibly important. Here are five things you can do right now to get started.
1. Goal Setting
2. Action Planning
3. Self Monitoring of behaviors, thoughts, and emotions
4. Managing your environment
5. Building social supports
Goals need to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time bound. Write them down and share them.
Action planning starts with scheduling one small step at a time. Keep a pen and paper calendar make plans that involve your friends and family.
Self monitoring through deliberate and focused journaling about what you do, think and feel. You can’t remember everything, so take the journal with you and write as the day goes.
Managing your environment by removing or changing negative influences or bad habit triggers. Make sure you add positive influences and good habits to replace the bad.
Build social support by seeking out healthy relationships. Look for optimistic, happy and active friends. Get together in person as often as possible.
